'Twas The Season of Hockey

'Twas the season of hockey, and all through the rink.
The Zamboni is quiet, the dressing rooms stink.
The nets were all stashed, away with a lock.
All that was found was a red and white sock.
The players were nestled, all snug in their beds,
While visions of breakaways, danced in their heads.
And Greg in his Beemer, and Brandon at home,
Were settling in, their hands on their phones.
When down at the ice, skating a great pace,
It was none other than that guy, Coach Ace!
Down the ice he did fly, his whistle in hand,
More drills to perfect, the best in the land.
The snow on the ice, gave a glisten of white,
the plays in his head, would give you a fright!
When what to his wondering eyes should appear?
But a man by the bench, offering a beer.
A hint of grey in his hair, and a stick in his hand,
Ace knew in a moment, it was his second-in-command.
More rapid than Gretzky, his moves were so fancy,
It was none other, than Coach Kevin Clancy!
Now Schneider, Now Carter!, Now Sangers and Gil!
On Snelly! On Dylan and Teagan and Will!
Casey and Matthew, Josh and James Page,
were skating around, not acting their age!
To the top of the crease, to the side of the wall,
Now break away, break away, break away all!
As wild shots and missed passes abound,
Coach Ace, will shout out, "Skate hard, one more round!"
So round went the kids, on the hard frozen ice,
Skating their hardest, not only once, but twice!
And then in a puck drop, I heard JohnJames say,
"I think I've had enough drills for one day!"
As the rink grew quiet, and Zack turned around,
In flew Coach Keith, not making a sound.
He was dressed all in black, from his helmet to skates,
Trying to remember, the next hockey game dates.
"I know what they are", said Manager John,
"Just give me a moment, I'll pass them along."
"We'll play Six Nations, and Simcoe and Paris,
If we play Embro, I hope they won't embarass."
Coach Ken did agree, with the times and the dates,
and said to young Nicholas, "Remember your skates!"
But if we don't win, and the games are all done,
The best part of hockey, is just having fun!
